Caring For Your Jewellery

Fine jewellery lasts generations when it's looked after well. A few simple habits will keep your Aparra pieces looking as bright as the day they arrived.

Do

  • Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or lined box to prevent scratching.
  • Wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth after every wear to remove oils and residue.
  • Put jewellery on last — after perfume, lotion, and hairspray — and take it off first.
  • Get prong settings checked once a year at any jeweller to catch loose stones early.
  • Clean gently with lukewarm water, mild soap, and a soft brush every few weeks.

Don't

  • Wear jewellery while swimming, showering, or in a sauna — chlorine and heat damage settings.
  • Use ultrasonic cleaners at home on gemstone or emerald-set pieces — they can crack under vibration.
  • Toss multiple pieces together in one pouch — metal-on-metal contact causes scratches.
  • Expose gold to chlorine-based cleaning products or bleach.
  • Sleep, exercise, or do household chores while wearing delicate pieces.

Material-Specific Care

18K Gold

Gold is soft and can scratch or bend under pressure. Store flat, avoid stacking heavy pieces on top of each other, and polish occasionally with a jewellery cloth to restore shine.

Diamonds

Diamonds attract oil and grease, which dulls their sparkle. A soak in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap, followed by a soft-bristle brush, restores brilliance in minutes.

Colour Gemstones

Emeralds, sapphires, and rubies vary in hardness — emeralds especially are delicate. Avoid ultrasonic cleaning and steam; wipe gently with a damp soft cloth instead.
